Hi, my name is Joshua Said, the founder of Flocking Adorable. Thank you for enquiring about our Hire Our Herd service, that creates new b-eh-eh-ginnings for animals, people and places!
We love helping people find solutions for their properties through an organic method that supports rescue animals. We've been rescuing animals for a decade, and we're excited for you to meet our wonder-goats who can remove weed infestations and bush fire risks at your home, workplace, school or farm.

Benefits of Hiring Our Herd
Our rescue goats are incredible fire mitigation, weed removal and native bush regeneration workers. And here is why:
-
Goats consume a broad range of invasive weeds that other animals won't eat, and they destroy the seeds in their gut which means those seeds will not propagate. Other livestock are unable to achieve this, and will often spread seeds via their manure.
-
The manure of our goats restores soil imbalances that cause weeds to grow in the first instance, which reduces weed growth, and their trampling hoof action reactivates soil microbes encouraging effective regrowth of native grasses and plants that will choke out invasive plant species in the future.
-
Our goats can reach areas that are unsafe for people or impossible to reach with machinery, eliminating unwanted growth and green waste that landowners would otherwise have to manually dispose of, saving both time and money. They also eat and break down bark and dead leaves on the ground, reducing fire risk.
-
Our goats provide every customer with an experience of connection, cuteness and companionship. They are loving animals who appreciate human affection, and bring a sense of harmony as they browse and graze. Some customers fall in love with our goats so much they later adopt some of our rescue goats, and if required we provide ongoing care services like hoof trimming, worming and vaccinating.

Our Herd Saving Lives
Watch our goats hard at work reducing bush-fire risks via our partnership with NSW Rural Fire Service. Since 2021 we have cleared thousands of acres throughout NSW, protecting vulnerable communities along with their homes and pets.

Weed Management and Fire Mitigation
Our goats are highly effective at clearing dense undergrowth on any terrain. They can climb cliffs and manage slippery embankments, whilst clearing vegetation over 1.5m high. They will consume and trample nearly all vegetation types, including priority weeds like:
-
Blackberry, Lantana, Willows, African Olive, Laurel, Privet, Box Elder
-
Ginger, Locust, Wild Tobacco, Tree of Heaven, Sycamore, Holly, Health
-
Creepers and vines i.e. Madeira Vine, Cat's Claw, Ivy, Jasmine, Morning Glory, Honey Suckle
-
Grasses and reeds i.e. Needle Grass, Tussocks, African Lovegrass, Pampas Grass, Giant Reed, Bamboo, Montbretia
Our goats are also useful in reducing the density of native species that may be too prevalent in an area and are suppressing other desired natives or posing a safety risk. Species include:
-
Wattle, Pittosporum, Banksia, Lilly Pilly
-
Bottle Brush, Wattle, Grevillea, Gum
-
Vines and scramblers
-
Grass and reeds i.e Spear, Wallaby, Kangaroo, Summer, Blady
Some plant species are NOT suitable for goats. Toxic species that must be removed or fenced off before the goats are onsite include:
-
Cestrum
-
Fireweed
-
Camellia
-
Rhododendron
-
Nightshade
-
Hakea
-
Agapanthus - Goats will not eat Agapanthus but the goats are safe to be on the property with Agapanthus so long as there are other types of vegetation to consume (goats will eat around the Agapanthus)

The Results
They very simply speak for themselves. Beyond the photos, many customers report a large reduction in weed regrowth, and an increase in native vegetation, due to the changed soil conditions, as explained above in the Benefits of Hiring Our Herd.

Hire Our Herd
Weeds or major overgrowth got your goat?
Looking for a kind, environmentally friendly solution to remove fire hazards that's cute, and far more fun than manual land clearing? Ewe have come to the right place.
Partnerships and Endorsements
We have working partnerships with government, NGO and private entities that include NSW Rural Fire Service, Australian Defence Force, a list of City and Municipal Councils, Catholic Education, Department of Education, retirement villages, environmental organisations, animal rescues and farmers.
Our business is endorsed by council weed control departments who recommend our services to property owners facing weed control orders and fines. We assist government departments in reaching their targets by supporting property owners with eco-friendly and economic methods of weed control, bushfire mitigation and native bushland regeneration.
Due to the harmless approach of our methods, government and private sector customers have engaged our services for ecological sensitive areas where traditional methods of control (such as machinery, burning or poisons) are not permitted by council.
We guide our customers through council specifications and offer advice on how to regenerate their properties to benefit native flora and fauna. We offer landscape design and permaculture planning as part of this initiative.

Hire Our Herd Packages
We have created a range of packages to suit both urban and rural properties of all sizes. We can service properties that are fully fenced or require our specilaised goat fencing.
The cost of Hiring Our Herd is determined by the requirements of each individual property, and its location from our homebase near Penrith.
A fully-fenced property is one that is secure to at least 1.5m high with metal, timber, or meshed wire fence (strand wire fences without mesh are not secure). If a property does not have secure fencing we will need to manually clear a 1m path around the perimeter of the designated area, upon which we will install our electric fence system that will contain our goats.
We will also install a temporary shelter if none exists, along with water troughs and salt blocks to ensure our goats have everything they need.
We can also provide traditional brush-cutting, hedging, mowing and and tree cutting services if goats are not suitable for your property.

Pricing & Consultations
Our packages prices are indicative for fully fenced properties, of moderate vegetation density (exc. GST). If fencing is required we can adapt a package for you.

All Hire Our Herd packages include:
-
Location install, hire and extraction of livestock
-
Location install, hire and removal of livestock care items (water trough, salt block, shelter as required)
-
A herd and property inspection during the hire period if required

Transport costs are calculated per kilometer from our base at Penrith NSW, and added to the chosen package.

For properties that require a physical inspection an onsite consultation can be booked. Consultations cost $150 for urban packages and $200 for rural, plus travel expenses. Consult fees are then deducted from the project quote (exc. travel expenses), thus refunded to customers who go ahead with the project.
